Abolition of 9,304 posts in the Military Engineer Services (MES) Approved by Defence Minister
The Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh has given his approval to abolish 9,304 posts in the Military Engineering Services (MES) on 7 May, 2020. The abolished posts are out of the total 13,157 vacancies of the basic and industrial staff of the MES
According to a statement released by the Defence Ministry, this decision has been taken to enhance the combat capability and rebalance the defence expenditure of the armed forces. The statement further states that the decision is in line with the direct outcomes of the recommendations of the Committee of Experts set up in 2016 by the then Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar. The committee was headed by former Lieutenant General D B Shekatkar.

NALCO to Recruit 120 Graduate Engineer Trainees through GATE 2020
National Aluminum Company Limited (NALCO) is going to recruit 120 Graduate Engineer Trainees on the basis of GATE 2020 scores. The Navratna company would be recruiting engineering graduates from Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgy, Instrumentation, Mining, and Chemical streams.
The last date of submitting the applications online was 9 April, 2020. However, due to COVID-19 outbreak the last date has been extended, as per the official NALCO notification until further notice. IES Master would recommend you to apply online now only without further waiting for the last date of submitting online applications.

GATE Score Requirements for PMRF Scheme reduced from 750 to 650
The Ministry of HRD has announced various changes in the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme. One of the major amendments that is of interest for engineering students across the nation is that the required GATE score of 750 has been reduced to 650.
The ministry has also introduced a lateral entry option to attract more students to the research fellowship scheme, and reduced the minimum CGPA to 8 or equivalent from any of the recognized institute or university (other than IISc, IITs, NITs, IISERs, IIEST and IIITs).

COVID-19 Lockdown: UPSC Postpones Civil Services (Prelims) Exams, 2020
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has decided to postpone the Civil Services Preliminary Examinations, 2020 ‘until further notice’. The UPSC Civil Services (Prelims) Exams were scheduled to be held on 31 May, 2020. However, keeping in mind nation-wide lockdown because of COVID-19, the Commission reviewed the current situation on 4 May, 2020, and decided that it will be impossible to resume examinations and interviews for the present.

COVID-19 Lockdown: UPPSC Defers Combined State Engineering Services 2020 Exam
The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has postponed the date for conducting written exam for Combined State Engineering Services 2020 recruitment drive for the post of Assistant Engineers till further notice. The UPPSC-AE 2019 Exam was scheduled to be held on 07 June, 2020. As per the official UPPSC notification, the fresh date of exam would be released later on at an appropriate time.
