IIT Madras Announces GATE 2019 Exam Dates, Adds Statistics as a New Paper

It is official now that the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2019 (GATE 2019) will be conducted by Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). The announcement regarding this has been made on the official website of IIT Madras.

The GATE 2019 exam would be conducted on 02, 03, 09, and 10 February, 2019. As per the official notification, GATE 2019 would be conducted in two sessions – Forenoon session (09:00 am to 12:00 pm) and Afternoon session (02:00 pm to 05:00 pm).

The GATE 2019 exam can be taken by students of 24 engineering streams (after including the newly added Statistics paper) who want to do master’s and direct doctoral programmes in engineering, technology, architecture and in other branches of science from various IITs and Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Engineering students aspiring to pursue their engineering career through Public Sector Undertaking companies (PSUs) too write GATE as most of the PSUs consider GATE score while recruiting suitable candidate.

GATE syllabus is vast so it demands serious effort and a dedicated time schedule for preparation. A candidate has to give his best, along with a lot of patience and energy to cope up with exam pressure. This time there is a minor change in GATE 2019. A new paper Statistics (ST) has been added by IIT Madras, the GATE 2019 conducting body. The paper Statistics will include Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability, Stochastic Processes, Inference, Regression Analysis, Multivariate Analysis, and Design of Experiments as topics. Candidates interested to write GATE 2019 can register themselves for GATE 2019 through GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) from 01 September, 2019. The last date for online submission of application for GATE 2019 is 21 September, 2019. This last date can be extended till 01 October, 2019 as per the official notification. GATE is an online test that is to be written by candidates in three hours. The GATE question paper comprises of 65 questions which are a mix of multiple choice questions (MCQs) and numerical answer type questions (NAQs). GATE writing students use a virtual calculator to perform various mathematical calculations. In addition to subject paper, GATE also includes General Aptitude paper. The objective behind General Aptitude paper is to test a candidate’s aptitude and understanding of general mathematical concepts as well as reasoning and logical aptitude.
